Van Slag 101 - Internationals

Are you interested in playing volleyball suited to your level? Then you are in the right place! Student volleyball association Van Slag offers you the perfect mix between volleyball and fun.

You can play internal volleyball competition in mixed teams at Van Slag. Every team consists of at least six (and mostly nine) players and is required to have at least two girls on the court at any time. Each game consists of three sets; each set consists of twenty-five points. Each rally can result in one single point. The internal competition consists of seven divisions, sorted from highest level to the lowest, respectively named from division A to H. Each division consists of six teams. Each year every team plays in seven group-stage rounds; each round consists of five games. At the end of every group-stage round, two teams promote to a higher division and two teams demote to a lower division.

Good to know before you join Van Slag:

It doesn’t matter what your volleyball skill level is, you’re always welcome at Van Slag! If you want to join Van Slag, you must be a student. Students of UU, HU and UCU have priority admittance to Van Slag. If a team needs a player, you can join us immediately. Otherwise you will be placed on our waitlist and we will contact you when there is a place for you.
Duration of timeslot of matches: 60 minutes, every Tuesday evening, matches are played between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm.
Net height: 2.35 meters, between men (2.43m) and women’s (2.24) height
Skill levels:
Van Slag A division: comparable to NEVOBO (Dutch national competition) men’s 2nd division or women’s promotion league
Van Slag H division: suitable for people who have next to no experience with volleyball

Costs:
Van Slag membership: €15,00 per season (= 1 academic year)

Besides volleyball, we organise a wide variety of other activities throughout the year. Some are volleyball-related, such as internal tournaments, an open outdoor tournament and beach volleyball in the summer. In addition, we organise over twenty other activities including weekend trips such as an introduction weekend for first-year members and a hitchhiking trip, as well as various parties and much more.

If you eventually decide that you cannot miss any of Van Slag and stay at home, then that is of course no problem. In that case, keep our teamcoordinator (teams.vanslag@gmail.com) informed, so we can edit this note in your profile.

Every activity of Van Slag such as parties, recreationary weekends and the outside tourney Van Gras are only possible because members voluntarily help the association. On the site you can find a description of every commission.

Van Slag currently knows the following commissions: introduction committee (IntroCie), activities committee (AcCie), party committee (FeCo), weekend commission (WeekendCie), hitchhike commission (LiftCie), tourney commission (ToCo), IT-commission (FixCie), legal commission (JuCie), year book commission (RedaCie), first year members committee (SjaarsCie), outside tourney committee (Van GrasCie), trainers commitee (TrainCie), beach committee (BeachCie) and the vault committee (KasCo).
